You Are Not Alone in Your Breast Cancer Diagnosis

We’re here to help you through it.

Welcome to the unfortunately fortunate group of badass women brought together by breast cancer. I know “fortunate” may be the last word you would use right now. You may be pissed, confused, overwhelmed and scared. You may even read what I’m about to say and tell me to go jump in a lake. (That’s not exactly the word I would have used a year ago, but I’m working on my cursing, so just go with me!)

Here’s what I’ve learned: the bond between survivors is fierce.

And by the way, if you were just diagnosed, you are already considered a survivor. So don't tell yourself, “I'm not a survivor yet.” You belong here too.

Through my work and my own breast cancer journey, I had the unusual gift of hearing story after story from women who had been there before me—different diagnoses, different treatments, different choices, different outcomes and every emotion imaginable. I took pieces of what I learned from those women—my Lifters—and used them to help navigate my own journey.

That is what Lifted, By My Girls! is about.

Twenty Women. Twenty Journeys. One Mission.

There isn't one breast cancer story because there isn't one way to go through breast cancer. Inside Lifted, By My Girls!, twenty women open their lives to you—not because our journeys will be exactly like yours, but because somewhere within them, I believe you will find something you need.

Maybe it will be an answer you didn't know to ask for. A lesson learned the hard way. A woman whose diagnosis sounds like yours. A laugh on a day you desperately need one. Or simply the reassurance of thinking, “She got through this. Maybe I can too.”

I've always believed we need three kinds of friends in life: one who's been-there-done-that, one who's right there in the trenches with us, and one we can someday turn around and lift up ourselves.

The first shows us what's possible.

The second reminds us we're not alone.

And the third gives us the incredible gift of becoming a light for someone coming behind us.

My hope and prayer is that Lifted, By My Girls! can be all three for you.

Because so many of us who have come through this journey will tell you that cancer changed something within us. It reminded us how precious life is. To notice the sunrise. Use the vacation days. Be kinder to ourselves. Worry a little less about the things that don't matter. Be present for the things that do.

You may not be anywhere near that place yet.

That's okay.

Right now, we're simply here to help you get through the next part.

So we hope you will read our stories. Learn from our lessons. Laugh with us. Cry with us. Ask questions. Take what helps you and leave what doesn't. Then build the journey that is right for you.

You've joined a club none of us asked to belong to—but once you're here, you've got GIRLS.

You have breast cancer. Breast cancer does not have you.

We've got you!
